The first EYAL match of the season, the first time SNHAC and HAWCS have competed as a composite team, the first time competing in Club colours for many young athletes and the first match as team manager for the girls for Melissa.
This was also the first time since 2019 that the EYAL was operating under ‘normal’ conditions. The team were competing against one of the biggest Clubs in the country, Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers along with Basildon, Peterborough and Nene Valley, Colchester and Tendering and Braintree. A solid start saw The team finish third behind SBH and Basildon.
Wins were hard to come by as the team fought hard for every place with lots of PB performances and youngsters stepping in to fill gaps on the team sheet where ever possible.
There were wins in the boys and girls U13 Discus from Elijah Ragoobar and Archie Chamberlain who won the boys while Hazel Spitzer and Riley McNally won the girls. Anna Fourie won the A high jump while Suzy Tonge won the girls B shot.
In the U15 age group Ellie Picton and Scarlet Victory (HAWCS) won the A and B 75H, Abigail Tongue won the PV, Enid Whitten won the hammer and Rachel Berry the B string Shot with Fred Dilley picking up a B string win in the 300m.
In the U17 section there were wins for Lily Cotter and Edward Turner in the A string hammer along with Bobby Pitman in the A Discus. Hopefully Jamie Timms will make a speedy recovery from the five stitches required in his knee after it came into contact with his spikes while long jumping.
Team Managers would like to thank all the athletes who filled gaps in the team sheet and a big thank you to Mike Gregory (Timekeeper), Sally Stevens and Sarah Berry (Track judges) and Alan Ephgrave (Field Judge) with his team of volunteer parents who covered all our field judging and ensured we got maximum points for our Officials. Dylan Baines and Norma Harris also deserve thanks for bringing the poles to Peterborough so our athletes could vault safely.
A full set of results along with a few photos are on the Club Website.

Starting the season with a Track Open at Ridlins proved successful, with 80 entries enjoying the opportunity to get Photo Finish times for the eight track events on offer. Athletes from Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire joined SNHAC members competing in a range of events – 80 and 600m for the U11’s to the more traditional 100, 200, 300, 400, 800 and 1500m for U13 through to Masters Athletes, the oldest being V70. The weather stayed dry although overcast, the wind was legal, Photo Finish and WiFi worked, so all equipment tested ready for the first home match of the season on the 30thApril. It was lovely to see so many new members in action. Full results for SNHAC athletes are on the results page and photos courtesy of Michael Joseph on the Photo Gallery. Those of you who are new to athletics will also find results on the National Website - Power of 10. This website records the results of any athlete competing under UKA rules (doesn’t include school leagues) and is a great way of tracking progress and providing evidence of athletes standards for GCSE and A Level PE exams and sports grants at university.
