News: April 2022

Nineteen of the Club’s U17 and U20 athletes travelled to Perivale for the first YDL match of the season on Sunday. The Club finished in fourth place behind Team West London, Vale of Aylesbury, St Mary’s Richmond and in front of Kingston, Guildford and Walton. In the U20 Competition there were wins in the 200m for Jess Astill 26.00, Jacob Kinchin Smith 23.04, and Jamie Joseph 23.93. Ed Laws 400m/400H, Tom Malone 800m, Jacob Kinchen Smith LJ and Anya Nesbit 400H all finished second. In the U17 competition there were wins for Max Chisholme 400m 54.7, Isaac Whitten 1500SC 5.06.30, Jamie Timms TJ 11m63 and Tallulah Taylor 80H/TJ 17.54 and 7m88. Second place finishes were achieved by Annabelle Howells 300m, Abigail Manson 1500m, Kyle Gall Gray 100m and Bobby Pitman DT. Completing the team were Isobel Geere 400m, Tyler Wannerton 1500m, Prince Onwuegbuzie 200/400m and George Fifield 800/1500m.

The next match is at Guildford on the 29th May.

Tuesday 26th April 2022

The first day of the 2022 County Championships took place at Stevenage on Saturday featuring 1500m, Vets and Relay events.
Twelve Club members challenged for medals in the 1500m. The closest race of the day was the U17 men’s race where SNHAC’s Will Galliford raced HPX’s George Ward to the line winning in 4.20.0 with George clocking 4.20.1! Abigail Manson was third in the U17 Girls race in 4.57.5 and Tyler Wannerton was second in the U20 Men’s race in 4.36.06. Also competing were U13s Casey Wyatt, Oliver Rose and Casey Wannerton, U15’s Aubrey Murray (4th 4.53.0), Patrick Thorne, Matthew Thompson and Harrison Lund along with U17’s Imogen Rose and Isaac Whitten.
Competing in the Vets Championships M45 Chris Westcott won his 1500m in 4.32.06. M55 Steve Mayfield collected gold medals in the long jump, triple jump, shot, discus and javelin, while W65 Joylyn Saunders Mullins won her Javelin competition and husband Tim won the hammer.
The afternoon finished with 4x100m and 4x400 relays. The Club put out 5 teams in 4x100m and 2 in the 4x400m. There were wins for the U13 Boys and U20 Women with U13 Girls, U15 Boys and U17 Girls finishing second. In the 4x400m both U20 Women and U20 men won their races.

Friday 15th April 2022

Many of the Club’s Senior Records were set in the 1980’s. The record for the Decathlon was recorded in 1989 by Dale Dayborn at Walthamstowe – 5762 points. Competing Wednesday and Thursday in the USA Senior Man Oscar Jopp recorded 4 PB’s on his way to a total score of 5814. 100m 11.85(PB), LJ 6m14, SP 10m52, HJ 1m74, 400m 53.49PB was followed on Day 2 with 110H 16.33, DT 30m99(PB), PV 3m85, JT 43m60 and 1500m 5.10.68(PB).
Three Club members were in action in Open Meetings over the weekend. Senior Libby Taylor set a new personal best when competing in the Hammer at Nuneaton on Sunday with a throw of 47m94.
Two of the Club’s U20 athletes took part in the Lee Valley Open. Ed Laws ran 56.16 in the 400H which is well inside English Schools Entry Standard and Jamie Joseph clocked 11.89 in his heat of the 100m.
