A great team effort saw the SNHAC’s U13/15/17 athletes in action on Sunday win with 456 points to Bedford Lions 370, with Bedford and County 337, Peterborough 335 Cambridge and Coleridge 333 and West Suffolk 105.
In the U13 Girls competitions there were A string wins for Edythe Oughton 70H and LJ and B string wins for Jessica Manson 200m, Eleanor Roberts 70H, Connie Dykes LJ and Georgia Baranowski SP. Also in action were Hazel Spitzer 1500m, Alana Buxton 800m and Hannah Cook 1500m. There was a B string win in the U13 Boys competition for Casey Wyatt 800m, other team members were Oliver Rose, 1500m, Fred Dilley 800m and Jenson Norris HJ. The U13 Girls won their 4x100m Relay.
Lily Cotter won the U15 Girls Hammer and there were B string wins for Grace Hart 800 and 300m and Enid Whitten SP. Making up the team were Abigail Ramsey sprints, Georgia Sutcliffe 300m Esme Searle 800m, Jane Griffin 800m, Lauren Griffin and Lily Ash 1500m and Izzy Hawkes HJ. Aubrey Murray won the U15 Boy’s 1500m, Harrison Lund the HJ and B 300m, Edward Turner the HT and B string SP and JT with Tomaz Pereira Gatcez winning the A string JT.
In the U17 age group Annabel Howells won the 100 and 300m while Abigail Manson and Corazon Da’silva the 200 and 300m respectively. Isabelle Chamberlain and Kiachi Dike won both Javelin competitions. Imogen Rose 800m and Tallulah Honey Taylor 80H made up the team. Having competed at the Steeplechase Festival in Bury St Edmunds in the morning Isaac Whitten then travelled to Peterborough to win the 1500m. Kyle Gall Gray, Prince Onwuegbuzie and Huxley Hawtin Sprints, Callum Fairey 800m and Bobby Pitman throws completes the team. The U17 Boys and Girls won both relays. The next match is Sunday 5th June at Stevenage.

Nineteen of the Club’s U17 and U20 athletes travelled to Perivale for the first YDL match of the season on Sunday. The Club finished in fourth place behind Team West London, Vale of Aylesbury, St Mary’s Richmond and in front of Kingston, Guildford and Walton. In the U20 Competition there were wins in the 200m for Jess Astill 26.00, Jacob Kinchin Smith 23.04, and Jamie Joseph 23.93. Ed Laws 400m/400H, Tom Malone 800m, Jacob Kinchen Smith LJ and Anya Nesbit 400H all finished second. In the U17 competition there were wins for Max Chisholme 400m 54.7, Isaac Whitten 1500SC 5.06.30, Jamie Timms TJ 11m63 and Tallulah Taylor 80H/TJ 17.54 and 7m88. Second place finishes were achieved by Annabelle Howells 300m, Abigail Manson 1500m, Kyle Gall Gray 100m and Bobby Pitman DT. Completing the team were Isobel Geere 400m, Tyler Wannerton 1500m, Prince Onwuegbuzie 200/400m and George Fifield 800/1500m.

The first day of the 2022 County Championships took place at Stevenage on Saturday featuring 1500m, Vets and Relay events.
Twelve Club members challenged for medals in the 1500m. The closest race of the day was the U17 men’s race where SNHAC’s Will Galliford raced HPX’s George Ward to the line winning in 4.20.0 with George clocking 4.20.1! Abigail Manson was third in the U17 Girls race in 4.57.5 and Tyler Wannerton was second in the U20 Men’s race in 4.36.06. Also competing were U13s Casey Wyatt, Oliver Rose and Casey Wannerton, U15’s Aubrey Murray (4th 4.53.0), Patrick Thorne, Matthew Thompson and Harrison Lund along with U17’s Imogen Rose and Isaac Whitten.
Competing in the Vets Championships M45 Chris Westcott won his 1500m in 4.32.06. M55 Steve Mayfield collected gold medals in the long jump, triple jump, shot, discus and javelin, while W65 Joylyn Saunders Mullins won her Javelin competition and husband Tim won the hammer.
The afternoon finished with 4x100m and 4x400 relays. The Club put out 5 teams in 4x100m and 2 in the 4x400m. There were wins for the U13 Boys and U20 Women with U13 Girls, U15 Boys and U17 Girls finishing second. In the 4x400m both U20 Women and U20 men won their races.
Many of the Club’s Senior Records were set in the 1980’s. The record for the Decathlon was recorded in 1989 by Dale Dayborn at Walthamstowe – 5762 points. Competing Wednesday and Thursday in the USA Senior Man Oscar Jopp recorded 4 PB’s on his way to a total score of 5814. 100m 11.85(PB), LJ 6m14, SP 10m52, HJ 1m74, 400m 53.49PB was followed on Day 2 with 110H 16.33, DT 30m99(PB), PV 3m85, JT 43m60 and 1500m 5.10.68(PB).
Three Club members were in action in Open Meetings over the weekend. Senior Libby Taylor set a new personal best when competing in the Hammer at Nuneaton on Sunday with a throw of 47m94.
Two of the Club’s U20 athletes took part in the Lee Valley Open. Ed Laws ran 56.16 in the 400H which is well inside English Schools Entry Standard and Jamie Joseph clocked 11.89 in his heat of the 100m.
The Hertfordshire Indoor Championships at Lee Valley saw nine Club athletes collect medals.
Seniors Dylan Baines and Shannon Rapacchi won their events. Dylan had a rare competition in the Triple Jump with 12m62 for the win and Shannon cleared 3m40 to win the pole vault. U20’s Jacob Kinchin Smith and Jamie Joseph were in action in the sprints Jacob ran 7.23 to win the 60m with Jamie close behind in 7.26 for second. Jamie won the 200m in 24.00. U17 Isaac Whitten won the 1500m in a PB of 4.33.59 and Adam Bungay jumped an 11m28 PB to secure triple jump gold. Bobby Pitman collected bronze medals in both long jump and shot – 5m06 and 8m75. U15 Harrison Lund finished second in the 800m in 2.26.73 and Patrick Thorne won the 1500m in 5.06.17
Three Club athletes represented Hertfordshire Schools in the ESAA XC Championships at Hop Farm in Kent. Will Galliford Inter Boy, Abigail Manson Inter Girl and Esme Searle Junior Girl took part in races of 300 plus. Highest placed finisher was Abigail Manson in 138th in a race which saw 331 finishers.
Competing at High Point, NC, USA Oscar Jopp ran a 15.40 wind assisted 110H for first place and recorded a 5m90 long jump and 3m95 pole vault.
