This year's club champs will take place at Ridlins on Saturday 18th September. You will find a timetable and application form on the "membership and application forms page" of the website. This event is open to ALL club members including under 11s.

Two Stevenage and North Herts Athletes were in action in Manchester at the England Athletics U17 Championships over the weekend. Jessica Astill came second in her heat of the 300m on Saturday 39.98. A personal best of 39.19 and Club U17 record in Sunday’s final saw the bronze medal come home to Hertfordshire. Aimie Taylor competed in the U17 pole vault where a clearance of 3m01 saw her finish 8th.

Four Club athletes were in action in the National Athletics League match at a rather ‘soggy’ Chelmsford Saturday. There were wins for senior women Shannon Rapacchi and U20 Libby Taylor. Shannon won the women’s pole vault with a clearance of 3m22, while Libby continued her fine form in the hammer, where a throw of 44m47 secured the win. Ed Laws came second in the high jump after a heavy fall in the 400m hurdles ruled out competing in the sprint hurdles. Georgia Shephard-Gazely came second In the women’s javelin with a throw of 30m35.

County Champs Success for SNHAC Athletes

Two and a half months later than usual the Hertfordshire County Track and Field Championships took place at Watford over the weekend. Sixteen Stevenage and North Herts A.C. athletes were in action over the weekend, recording 15 first place performances between them. The first event on Saturday morning saw Shannon Rapacchi jump a personal best to win the Senior Women’s pole vault with a clearance of 3m45, other pole vault gold medals came from U17 Aimie Taylor and U15 Bobby Pitman, U15 Lucy Baverstock Jumped a personal best of 2m40 for silver. U20 Ed Laws won all three of his events starting with a personal best in the 110m Hurdles 15.49 on Saturday and first thing Sunday morning a 57.82 400m Hurdles was followed by 1m71 high jump. The Hammer competition on Saturday saw U20 Libby Taylor extend her Club Age Group Record with a 47m78 throw. U15 Samuel Buss won his hammer competition with 30m27. Other U20 athletes competing included Maddie Waite who ran a personal best for the bronze in the 400 hurdles 69.62, winning the high jump and Nile Odejimi-Riley who had to withdraw with injury when in second place in the triple jump. U17 Jessica Astill won her first ever 400m with a time of 58.33. Shanumi Akinfenwa won the high jump clearing 1m60, Jamie Joseph won the 200m in 23.27 and was second in the 100m 11.48. U15 Bobby Pitman completed his own version of a Pentathlon over the weekend, having won the pole vault he went on to win the Discus 32m80 and finished Saturday with a bronze in the 80m hurdles. Sunday’s timetable wasn’t kind as the 200m and long jump were timetabled for the same time. He was rewarded with a personal best in the 200m and a bronze Medal in the long jump. Imogen Rose ran 2.36.29 for 4th place in the 800m. The two U13 athletes both won their events Abigail Tonge the 70m hurdles and Enid Whitten the shot, Abigail also brought home a silver medal in the high jump.

Youth Development League comes to Stevenage.

Stevenage and North Herts Athletic Club hosted the first full match of the Youth Development League at Ridlins Stadium on Sunday. The Club’s U20 and U17 athletes were up against teams from Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers, Hillingdon, and composite teams from West London and Harrow/Dacorum and Tring. The threatened storms rumbled around, but apart from light drizzle in the morning, the match stayed dry. The performance of the day came from U20 Libby Taylor who set a new U20 Club record in the Hammer with a throw of 46m85. Returning from injury Nile Odejimi-Riley won the triple jump jumping 13m10, he ran a 11.7 100m to win the B String and a leg of the relay. Bluebell Cooke won the 800m in 2.20.31. Will Lawler ran a personal best for third place in the 110m Hurdles – 15.4, also in action Jacob Kinchin Smith 200m and Alex Pickard 100m joined Nile and U17 Will Galliford to run the 4x100m relay. Olivia Lindsay came third in the long jump - 4m89 and Dani Mainstone in her first competition since ankle surgery in 2019 won the B shot. U17 Annabel Howells was second in the 300m 43.25, Amelie Hobbs came second in the 3000m - 12.20.13 and Aimie Taylor equalled her personal best in the pole vault with a clearance of 3m20 for second place. In the U17 boy’s competition Will Galliford came second in the 1500m – 4.24.74, while Jamie Joseph, Oliver Humphrey and Tiago Garcez- Pereira came third in the 100m – 11.48, 100m hurdles- 16.46 and discus – 24m98 respectively.

SNHAC's men secured 3rd place in the latest virtual Scott's Travel 10k Midweek League Division 3 race. Chris Westcott's time of 38 minutes 40 seconds secured him 3rd individually, while Adam Searle (44:08) was the next quickest for the club. Paul Spicer (46:32), Trevor Mason (47:34), Paul Pickard (54:08), Mark Pinney (64:22) and Graham Spicer (72:23) were the other runners. The women's team of Jenny Cotter (48:08) and Chris Feely (50:52) were 6th. Overall, the club came 5th.

Race 4 will also be virtual and runs from 2nd to 15th August, any club member can submit a time for a 10k run during that period. The more entries the better we will score! Details will be with members very shortly.
