The fourth round of the Herts and Middlesex Vets League saw Stevenage and North Herts AC travel to Hemel Hempstead on Monday 13th July. Wins came in their respective age groups from Lexi Rolfe, Charlotte Astill, Joylyn Saunders Mullins in the 200m sprints and Monica Brown in Long Jump and Shot with some strong performances from Esther Hamil, Sandra Reed, Chris Feely and Julie Mason on the track. Sue Spicer, Helen Beddall and Viv Brown added valuable points in the field events to the women’s team’s collective score resulting in them winning the Herts and Middlx Vets Women’s League and going on to represent the area in the Southern Vets Final to be held on the 6th September at Ashford.
Chris Westcott, John Mayor and Mick Shortland also had 1st place finishes in the 800m, High Jump and Javelin in their respective age group events with the rest of the team of Mark Pinney, Marc Green, Trevor Mason, Graham Spicer, Paul Pickard, Tony Carolan competing in the other 800m 200m and 3km events in respective age groups and Dave Bowker in the 2km Walk with Steve Stone in the Javelin finishing a credible 3rd on the night. This consolidated their 3rd place out of the 10 team league in the first year of competing in this league. Both the men’s and women’s teams posted new 4x200m seasons best performances. Team managers were delighted with first season in the league and are looking forward to the women being at the final in September.
