Both the Men and Ladies Vets team competing as separate teams from Stevenage and North Herts AC took part in their first Herts areas of Southern Vets League match hosted by Enfield and Haringay AC at Lea Valley Athletics centre on Monday 27th April. Competitors could represent a younger age group but had to throw the younger age group weighted implements. The Men’s team started with the 100m M35 Mark Pinney 14.7 in the M40 Paul Pickard 14.5. M50 Trevor Mason 15.3in the 400m M35 Mark Green 72.4 with M40 Trevor Mason running down an age group 67.4 and M50 Graham Spicer 68.0. In the M60 Mick Shortland finished in 110.4s. The 1500m saw M35 Mark Green finish 5th in his age group 6.20.4 with M40 Chris Wescott finishing 1st in age group in 4.32.3. M50 Tony Carolan ran in 6.13.2 and M60 Mick Shortland in 9.40.1. The Men’s 2k walk saw Paul Pickard walking as a M35 finish in 15.03.06 with M50 David Bowker 11.27.6. In the field events competing as a M35 Steve Stone threw 9m 08 with M50 Tony Caralan throwing 6m 48. M60 Mick Shortland threw 8m 72. In the Long Jump M35 Mark Pinney jumped 3m 90 and M60 Mick Shortland jumped 2m 60. The Javelin saw Steve Stone again as a M35 throw 31m 04. The final Men’s race of the night was the 4 x 100 Relay and saw the men finish 3rd in 56.9
In the Ladies event W35 100m saw Lexi Rolph win in 14.2 with W40 Charlotte Astill also win in 14.1 in the W50 race Monica Brown also won in 14.5 and W60 Joylyn Saunders Mullins also won in 15.3 in the 400m W35 Sandra Reed won with 68.5 and W50 Chris Feely ran 73.7 finished 2nd. The 1500 m W35 Esther Hamil run in 6.37.3 finishing 5th after her exploits 7th finisher in the European Masters Triathlon held in Spain with W40 Charlotte Astill running 5.57.6 finishing 1st. in her age group. In the 2k walk Sue Spicer walking as a W35 finished in 20.23.9 with Helen Beddall walking as a W50 finished in a time 18.19.5. The Discus saw Viven Brown competing as a W35 in her first competition throw 15m 25 with Helen Bedall throwing 11m 41 as a W50. In the W60 category Joylyn Saunders Mullins threw 14m 94. The High Jump Sandra Reed cleared 1m 20 as a W35 with Monica Brown as a W50 jumped 1m25. Fresh from their individuals 100m success the Ladies 4 x 100m relay team stormed to an emphatic win in a time of 57.9.
The Ladies team collective score meant they finished winners on the night of the 7 Ladies teams and the Men’s team finished 3rd of the 10 competing Men’s teams. Team Managers Paul Pickard and Chris Feely were delighted with the performances and result of the both teams and look forward to the next league match to be held at Ridlins on 18th May
