Thursday 2nd July – Hitchin
SNHAC’s road runners secured the points needed to ensure they finished this year’s Scott’s Travel Midweek 10k League in 6th place, two places higher than last year. Fourteen of the club’s athletes braved the heat to race through the scenic countryside between Hitchin and Pirton.
As he has done in every race this year, Adam Mason led the team home to finish in 21st place with a time of 38 minutes 55 seconds. Only two places behind was the rapidly improving Jay Papa who broke the 40 minute mark for the first time to finish in 39 minutes 8 seconds. The highly experienced Liam Herbert was third man home in 36 place (41 mins 31 secs) . In his second outing for the club Mark Grayson was next home in 58th place with a time of 44 minutes 45 seconds. Next through the line was one of the team’s younger members Olly Henton-Pusey who finished his first race in 44 mins 56 secs for 62nd place.
Ever present Trevor Mason was next in 76th place and a time of 45 mins 54 secs with Paul Pickard about a minute behind in 88th (46 mins 50 secs). Tony Carolan was 124th in 51 mins 16 secs and Graham Spicer came through the line in 139th (56 mins 24 secs). Mark Pinney, finishing his second midweek league 10k, was 144th in 60 mins 13 secs. Patrick Carolan completed the team , coming home in 147th (66 mins 52 secs).
First of the three women running for the club was Georgia Reed who finished in 33rd place with a time of 51 mins 57 secs. Sally Thompson was 47th in a time of 55 mins 32 secs while Cathy Reed came home in 65 mins 6 secs for 71st place.
On the night the club finished in 6th place to secure that 6th place overall after the 4 scoring races, a great achievement for a small team. But with numbers growing and times getting quicker the club will be hoping for a good performance in the mobmatch race next week and even greater things next year!
