Following on from the first race in Stevenage two weeks ago 14 of the club’s athletes raced around a scenic course through Epping Forest last Wednesday evening. With the threat of rain hanging over the runners and a few hills thrown in for good measure the conditions were set for an interesting run!
Running just her second midweek race Georgia Reed was the club’s first finisher in the women’s race. She was 40th in 51 minutes 11 seconds. Just behind was Steph English (45th in a time of 51 minutes 37 seconds). The women’s team was completed by Cathy Reed who was 87th in a time of 62 minutes 3 seconds.
First home again for the men was Adam Mason in 21st place with a time of 37 minutes 54 seconds. Next to finish was Liam Herbert (42nd place in 40 minutes 35 seconds). Running his first race of the year Robert Bolton was 73rd in 43 minutes 30 seconds with first time midweek league runner Paul Spicer just 6 places further back in 44 minutes 5 seconds. Exactly a minute behind was Trevor Mason, the first of the club’s vets to finish in 93rd place. 33 seconds later Martin Reed crossed the line in a time of 45 minutes 38 seconds in 98th place. Paul Pickard was 105th in 46 minutes 14 seconds with first time runner Allan Marshall 3 places behind in 46 minutes 33 seconds. The team was completed by Tony Carolan (118th 47 minutes 42 seconds), Matthew Mason who overcame injury to finish in 49 minutes 52 seconds and 132nd place and Graham Spicer (160th in 57 minutes 55 seconds).
Overall, despite missing several key athletes the team came 7th place to maintain an overall pace of 7th after 2 races. With other athletes returning from holidays and available for the next race in Harlow the club will be hoping for another good performance.
Anyone interested in joining the Road Runners their Training runs are planned every Thursday evening from 6.30 from the Ridlins track.
