16 of SNHAC’s athletes made the short trip down the A1 to Welwyn to run the final Scott’s Travel Midweek League race of the summer. This was a chance to run against all the participating clubs as all three divisions joined together for the end of season mob match.
Even before racing started the club had a trophy winner as Helen Cairns picked up the shield for coming third in the V35 women’s age group in division 2. In the race itself Helen led SNHAC’s women home finishing in 23rd place in a time of 45 minutes 19 seconds. Next lady home was Lisa Barber who was 100th in 54.54. The rest of the women’s team was made up of Hayley Duke (120th, 56.33), Julie Mason (144th, 58.08) and Cathy Reed (174th, 64.43). There were 194 participants in the women’s race.
For the men Dan Poulton led the way home, finishing in 51st place in 38.08. Next back was Adam Mason who was 101st in 41.30. Paul Spicer came through third for the club in 109th in 43.59. First vet home was Mark Grayson (121st, 42.50). The rest of the men’s team was Liam Gregory (150th, 44.45), Trevor Mason ( 178th, 46.16), Martin Reed (186th, 47.15), Tony Carolan (190th, 47.33), Paul Pickard (227th,49.52), Graham Spicer (280th, 55.39) and Mark Pinney (308th, 64.38). There were 314 finishers.
Overall, the performance saw the club come 12th out of the 18 clubs taking part, the highest position the club has achieved in the Midweek League mob match since joining 4 years ago. The roadrunners now move on to the road relays in Stevenage at the end of the month.
