A torrential downpour in the hours before last Wednesday’s race insured that SNHAC’s team in the latest round of the Scott’s Travel Midweek 10k League faced a challenge race through Harlow. With the trails in places more like rivers 15 athletes battled through to secure 7th place overall.
The highest finisher in the women’s race was Helen Cairns who covered the course in 44 minutes 24 seconds to finish in 8th place. She was followed back by 48th place Georgia Reed in 52 minutes 55 seconds. Lisa Liversidge, making her debut for the club ended up in 57th with a time of 53 minutes 32 seconds. The next two to complete the course were Julie Mason (85th, 58 minutes 20 seconds) and Cathy Reed(90th, 59 minutes 53 seconds). Completing the women’s team was Lisa Barber who was 99th in 65 minutes 29 seconds. Overall the women managed to come 6th.
For the men, Adam Mason yet again led the team home. He completed the race in 41 minutes 48 seconds to finish in 51st place. Phil Eaton was 77th in 45 minutes 8 seconds with Trevor Mason 89th exactly a minute later. Paul Pickard was 94th in 46 minutes 37 seconds, while Martin Reed crossed the line in 47 minutes 33 seconds and 107th place. The remainder of the team was Graham Spicer (143rd, 52 minutes 44 seconds), Mark Pinney (167th ,62 minutes 22 seconds), Tony Carolan (168th, 65 minutes 1 second) and Patrick Carolan (169th, 67 minutes 36 seconds). Tony got stuck in traffic on the M11 and arrived 10 minutes after the race had started, despite giving others a huge head start he still caught other runners!
The team currently occupy 7th place in the 11 team division and are hoping that the weather is a little drier for the final scoring race in Royston in 2 weeks time!
